Sing is a 2016 American computer-animated musical comedy film. It was released by Illumination Entertainment on December 21, 2016. The story involves a theater that has fallen on hard times and is in danger of foreclosure. In order to raise funds, the theater owner, Buster Moon, announces a singing competition. Through a mistake made by his assistant, the prize is listed as $100,000 instead of $1,000.
When Buster finds out, it is too late to shut down the competition and he optimistically continues with auditions and rehearsals. Just before the show, a problem with an elaborate state prop destroys the theater and everyone disbands.
Later, one of the contestants visits the ruins and is able to overcome her stage fright to sing a song. Buster overhears from where he is now working nearby as a car washer, and is inspired to hold the show anyway, without any kind of prize. The event brings everyone back and impresses a wealthy financier, who sponsors the rebuilding of the theater.
